Welcome!

qr code COMING UP in 2025

In 2025, 7 Sibley is back with a bang! Since the big regional floods in 2022 we’ve hosted The Recovery Support Service, helping locals get back on their feet. This year, we’ll have regular monthly meet-ups for busy hands as well as offering a great range of workshops. Our little shopfront is expanding with local food products and crafts, garden boosters and all you need to live more lightly on the planet. We’re also offering a tools repair and sharpening service as well as our Community tools, craft and food equipment library.

Don’t forget to check out our new hempcrete composting toilet and bathroom on site and as a community space, relax and enjoy our growing garden spaces.

Get involved in our local waste reduction project nimBIN CHICKENS, collecting sorting, shredding and re-making plastic waste into useful products that would otherwise go to landfill

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT LIBRARY

Our Tools and Equipment Library is open for community borrowing to library members.

Are you handy with tools care? We are looking for a volunteer to drop by Sibley St on a regular basis (e.g. once a fortnight) to service any tools/equipment that needs maintenance etc., and keep an eye on consumables. If this sounds like you contact Steph at sibley@nnic.org.au

SKILLS WORKSHOPS

A large variety of workshops will continue to provide skills and raise funds to keep the doors open.

SATELLITE HUB

7 Sibley Street will continue to operate as a satellite hub of NNIC, providing info about our services and referrals into programs.

It will continue to function as a key composting and recycling hub in the community, aiming to  provide educational and physical demonstrations of sustainable principles

It will also continue to function as a promotional hub for local producers to enhance our local economy and job opportunities.

MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need more volunteers so we can open 7 Sibley St more often. If you have skills or local products to share you could run a workshop or a stall at the same time as keeping an eye on our small shop and also the Tools and Equipment Library. There are loads of interesting jobs to do at 7 Sibley St, so come on down and get involved. Either drop in and chat to Steph during opening hours OR email her on sibley@nnic.org.au

OPENING HOURS

We are open at 7 Sibley Street Nimbin, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10.30am- 2pm. Drop in to see the latest developments, find out about getting involved, join our Community Tools library, learn new skills at our workshops, and support local makers and producers.

OUR STORY

This WAS 7 Sibley Street, Nimbin, New South Wales, Australia.

Photo Sibley St in Skate park precinct context

As you can see from this picture, the site is located in the middle of the village next to the Nimbin Skate Park and across the road from the Nimbin Neighbourhhod and Information Centre (which owns the site). Its purpose is to house a bunch of community projects and activities connected to affordable housing and sustainable living.

The BIG PLAN is to construct a new building on the site which demonstrates and resources affordable and sustainable building, housing and living in general. And which supports employment and economic opportunities for people in need, as well as supporting our Food Relief programs.

We bought it in 2012 and paid off the loan in 2015.

In 2016 we installed a shipping container on site so we could begin to salvage and collect building materials.

NNIC - Sibley St Foundations

In March 2018, we received our Development Application approval to move the house, our Construction Certificate and in December 2018 we completed Stage One building works. A lot of time, professional expertise & volunteer efforts made this happen (watch here): 7 Sibley St – Moving the House

We always welcome help, please get in touch at the NNIC or email sibley@nnic.org.au if you would like to be a part of the project or contribute to make it the best it can be for the community.
